A new Child Centre of the city of Toronto. This project, while small in scale, has all the best design elements that RSA can offer early childhood education. The building design shelters and protects its residents from the large scale residential developments on Yonge Street. It provides green spaces and exterior views at all height levels to enagage its very young inhabitants in the outside world. Conceived as a children's garden, akin to Alice in Wonderland, the Center will provide a nurturing and experimental environment.
2004 OAA Award Honourable Mention
One of the most unusual aspects of this downtown project, is that it is in fact, a "green field" project. It was only discovered after award of the project to RSA that the site was a landlocked plot without any municipal services of any kind. The firm has worked diligently in aiding Children's Services to negotiate with various landowners and all utilities to provide the necessary services to the site.
